Webb20 dec. 2002 · 1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - My 7.3 makes a loud hissing sound .????? - I have started to notice that at 1500rpm my engine and or exhaust is making a loud hissing sound. but a soon as i give it more throttle it sounds like it blows out ? anyone know what im talking about, it only does this when it is cold... Webb19 feb. 2008 · Are you guys sure its not just air getting sucked into the engine? Because that will produce a slight hiss, because my car makes a hiss too, but its just the air getting sucked in and the engine running. At least I hope so. Stick your ear next to the intake or just close to the engine in general with the hood open.

The noise sounds like (hard to describe) almost a rattle in the engine, cyclinder shutting down, like its shutting down after the key was turned off. BMW of Honolulu is no help at all.
